How we select products to review

Products are selected for review based on search demand, market significance, and reader requests. We prioritize products that a meaningful number of people are actively researching before purchase. We do not accept payment for reviews, do not review products we cannot verify specifications for, and do not create positive reviews in exchange for free samples.

We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage. If a manufacturer ever supplies a product, a sample, or early information, we disclose it on the page, and it does not change our assessment. Manufacturers have no input into review conclusions.

How we score products

Every cold plunge review on ColdPlungeSpot is scored across five dimensions, weighted by relevance to actual cold plunge performance:

Build quality20%Shell materials, seam quality, finish, structural integrity, and perceived durability over time.

Chill performance30%Minimum achievable temperature, temperature stability over 24 hours, and cooling speed from 68F to target.

Noise15%Sound level at 1 meter during active cooling and during temperature maintenance mode, measured in dB.

Value20%Price relative to performance. Scores account for the full market - a $1,200 unit can score higher on value than an $8,000 unit.

Water quality system15%Filtration effectiveness, sanitation method, water clarity over a 30-day period, and ease of maintenance.

Each dimension is scored from 0 to 10. The overall score is a weighted average of the five dimensions. We do not round scores for aesthetic reasons - a product that scores 7.3 is published as 7.3.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our rankings or scores. Products we earn higher commissions from do not receive favorable treatment. We have published negative reviews of products we earn commissions from and have recommended competitors over affiliate products when the competitor is the better purchase. Our review process is completed before commercial relationships are established for any given product.

Who writes this site

Content on ColdPlungeSpot is written and edited in house by our editorial team. We do not employ a named credentialed reviewer, and we do not claim clinical or academic authority. What we do commit to is traceability: every physiological statement is tied to published research we name, and every specification is tied to the manufacturer that published it. Where the evidence is thin or contested, the page says so instead of rounding it up into a claim.

We read the published cold water immersion research and the manufacturer specifications, then write up what they actually support. We do not perform first-hand product testing, and we say so on every page that reports a number.

How we research

Review update policy

Cold plunge products change. Prices are revised, specifications are updated, and new model years replace existing ones. We update reviews when:

A price changes by more than 10% from what we published
A manufacturer releases a new model version that replaces the reviewed unit
We receive verified information that a specification we published is incorrect
Reader feedback identifies a factual error

Every review displays a "last updated" date. When substantial changes are made, we note what changed and why at the top of the review.

Corrections and contact

If you believe a review contains a factual error, a price that is significantly out of date, or a specification that does not match the current product, please contact us at editorial@coldplungespot.com. We investigate all credible correction requests and respond within 5 business days. Corrections are published transparently in the affected review.
